Um... There are pros and cons of getting a 1st hand / 2nd hand cue.
For 1st hand cues: Of course, you will feel psychologically better because you are the first owner of the cue. Yet, 1st hand cues are generally more expensive. Also, you will need to learn to take care of the cue as the wood will still subject to change due to temperature and humidity.
For 2nd hand cues: OK, usually cheaper first of all. Also, the wood will be more stable than 1st hand cue (depends on how old the cue is). Moreover, it is generally believed that the quality of old John Parris cues are better than that of new John Parris cues. The wood will have a darker colour due to the aging of wood (which I personally love it). There may be some hidden problems if not being checked carefully (ferrule, joint and etc.).
If you decided to get a new John Parris, I would highly recommend you to buy it from Snooker147 which is the sole agent of John Parris in Hong Kong. Here's the price list: http://www.snooker147.net/parris_cue.htm
Another option is to order it directly from John Parris. However, you have to be 100% clear of what specification you would like to have. Also, it would be more expensive.
