I have a Maple cue, after years of playing, on the shaft itself there are dent and dirt built up. I know cue makers in England they provide services for removing dent and dirt and also refinish the cue once again but it is costly. Can anyone please suggest what is the best way to remove those dent and dirt without damaging the finishing on the cue?

I have the same problem as my cue dropped on floor and there are 2 dents on the shaft, 1 at the end on the splicing and the other 1 is near the middle. I am thinking to email John Parris and ask whether it is possible for a re-finish on my ultimate cue (need sanding to remove the dents). Would it affect the cue>? |

I don't think it will affect the performance of your cue if John Parris say he is able to remove the dents without taking too much out of the shaft.

Just emailed John Parris and they said they can re-finish my cue for £20 (about HKD$280) to remove any dents, and they need the cue for a week. I presume they will sand the cue with sand paper and then apply wax + oil etc. If they sand the shaft, which I think will reduce the diameter of the shaft by 1-2 mm. Shall I or shall I not? Those dents havent affected the way i played, but it is sad to see and feel the dents on my shaft... |

I think u better ask them for more detail about the process and mention about your worries (I guess they may have some alternative method instead of sanding to take dents out). I reckon it's safe to do as they are the PRO, but as you said, you don't feel those dents when u play, you could leave it as it is.

can this method apply on ask cue? It's placing a cotton or tissue as the same size of the dent, or just a large one covering it? Besides, would it has any drawback coz the dent of my cue in just about 5 inch away from the tip, i'm worrying this coz it is the point where the bridge is.

well it works either maple or ash and the cotton or tissue should a little biger than the dents,is ok with a small dent, actually this method is let the wood soak in a little bit of water and swell back, the wood will back to normal when moisture is gone naturally.remember to check every 5 to 10 minutes until the dent is swell back and wipe it dry.
