So u have told us lie about the relationship of u and the shop"my cue". Not just that u visited the shop but u also bought a cue from this shop. U told lies because u like this shop a lot and u want other people to go there in order in keep it running, so u made up some rumours about "cheong ching'. As a consequence, u were in breach of the law of defamation.......and u would be responsible for the resulting economic loss in the court.....case closed. |

Its actually not case closed. For it to be case closed you would have to prove there existed a direct relationship between his "rumors" and any resulting economic decline. Actually, he is given the right to give his opinion and repeat the opinions of others at his own discretion. If you consider this defamation then websites such as www.epinions.com are a breach of US, HK and Canadian law (as well as many other countries) as it contains volumes of personal, and retold, accounts of poor and negative opinions towards a variety of businesses and services. If you consider that defamation then by all means you are saying that noone is allowed to say anything negative about anything unless there is a clear consensus by everyone that the opinion being stated is a well known fact.
Example:
So next time you praise Windows, and put down Apple on paper, computer, or verbally you are defaming or slandering Apple. And conversely, when an Apple user praises Windows, and puts down Windows s/he is defaming Windows.
Of course I would hope with that example you can see how ridiculous the situation actually is. Everyone is afforded the right to express their own opinion. The person, "Marvintai", made 1 negative post about what he heard about whatever billiards store. He is entitled to his opinion, just like you are entitled to calling him a liar. Just like you have your own opinion of him, I have my own as well. He mentiones "My Cue" a lot, and its possible to infer that he works for them or is somehow financially tied to them, but I coudl also say that he might have been a very happy customer with them. If we cannot even express our own opinions, then you can forget defamation, you have killed one of our biggest freedoms in our democracy - free speech.
By the way, regardless of whoever says good or bad about whichever store.
