Try to think from momentum during our school days. Law of conservation of energy (and momentum) is true if there is no spinning of white ball.

Law of conservation of energy may not be true as there is energy loss during impact. The conservation of momentum is also false as there are external force such as friction between the balls and the clothes. |

Thank you for sharing. Let me put it in this way.
Law of conservation of energy is always true (up to the current scientfic theory and evidence). It cannot be false.
Energy is always preserved. It can only be transformed into other forms. i.e. kinetic energy of white ball transformed into kinetic energy of the white ball and target ball, heat, sound, etc. All the balls finally stop because of friction from cloth and air friction. Heat energy is being transformed at last. It the table is not level, potential energy is changed.
Mometum is also conserved right at the moment of impact. Any change due to friction occurs afterwards.
However, this is not the most important thing. I was trying to say that these basic physics theories help me to predict the approximate direction of white ball going. The spinning and friction really affect the result.
Having said that, I always 'OFF' !! haha....

Buddy, I don't really agree to what you say I mean not 100%. I would say the angle of cue ball is going along with the tange line (the perpendicular line of the cue ball and the object ball) and the most important thing is that side spin won't change the angle at all until it hits the side of the table but the top spin and the bottom will change the angel either wider(bottom spin) or (top spin) shorten the angle. Actually I have been a very serious player for the past 10 years I went to school to learn how to play and I have some professional friends been teaching me in the past years. Although I am a America pool player but I know the same concept apply in snooker table too.. Good luck in the game.. The more you know about the game the more fun you will have...
