This is according to the law of physic, (assuming you had hitted the cue ball dead center with no spin and a full ball on the object ball) since the size and weight of the cue ball is the same as of the object ball- the cue ball will transfer all its energy to the object ball and causing the cue ball to stop at impact. You could however apply stun-follow or top spin to make the cue ball go forward. If however, the cue ball and the object ball are not the same size and weight, it will not have this result. For example; using a pool cue ball which is larger than the object snooker ball. Hit dead center on the pool cue ball and it will go forward as well. It is because the object (snooker) ball could not absord all the energy from the cue (pool) ball. The cue (pool) ball will have some energy left to move forward. In reverse, hitting dead center on a snooker cue ball with a pool ball. The snooker cue ball will bounce backward. Happy snooker! ;) |

Forgot to mention, in some suitation the cloth of the table might effect the outcome. For instant, if the friction between the table cloth and the cue ball is greater than the thrust of the cue ball, it will cause the ball to have spin forward motion. It will then cause the cue ball to spin forward after impact. So bare in mind, if we want to make the cue ball dead stop on impact, the thrust has to be greater than the friction of the table cloth. |

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thank you B. Hall. Yes, the cue ball will still have the top spin causing the cue ball stay even after bouncing back from the cushion if it is a powerful shot. This is like hitting a coin on a table with back spin on it.

All balls should have same size and same weight. If the cue ball is smaller than object balls, when you apply power shot, all contacts will occur 'kick'. It is because the center line(horizontial line parallel to the table) is below the center line of the object ball, and this will push the object ball up and leave the table surface. eric |
