Mathew Bolton took both Australian Billiard titles, played at the Commercial Club in Albury over the past six days.

Bolton first took the Australian National Billiards title played in the 150 up format, when he beat Joe Minici 5-1 in the final after beating Darren Martin in the last eight and Les Higgins, who beat Steve Mifsud in his quarter final match, in the semi-finals. In the top half of the draw Minici saw off the challenges of Mark Hammer in the quarter finals and Frank Humphreys in the other semi-final but was not strong enough on the day to seriously challenge Bolton.

In the timed format Australian Open Billiards Championship an impressive Bolton completely outplayed the 2003 winner Steve Mifsud by 2735-1359, which included a break of 471, to retain the title he won last year and add to his very successful weekend.
The Quarter Finals saw Bolton have the easiest win when he beat Bruce Wilkinson 1396-562, giving him a semi-final meeting with David Collins, who earlier had seen off the challenge of Les Higgins 980-653. Collins however was no match for the in-form Bolton who had no problems in taking his place in the final.

In the bottom half of the draw Steve Mifsud was kept on his toes by Phil Tarrant who he finally beat 840-718 to earn him a semi-final match against Joe Minici, who earlier beat Frank Humphreys 900-506 in their quarter final meeting but it was not to be Minici’s weekend, with Mifsud taking the final slot with a well deserved win.
