FU DELIGHT AFTER TOURNAMENT VICTORY Marco Fu was "delighted" after he claimed a £30,000 first prize when he beat John Higgins 5-1 to secure the first trophy of the new season in the Asia/World Challenge in Bangkok.
It was the world number 16's second tournament victory following last year's success in the Premier League final.
Fu said: " I've coped well with the pressure here and I'm delighted to have come out on top.
"To capture a ranking event is obviously the priority but an invitation event like this is never easy and just as difficult to win."
Fu lost his opening group game against Thailand's Atthasit Mahitthi but then defeated the likes of Ken Doherty, Stephen Hendry and Chinese wonder boy Ding Junhui.
"John (Higgins) is never easy to beat," Fu continued. "He always plays to win whatever the stakes and the way he performed in the semi-finals showed how well I had to play to get the better of him.
"I had to be at my best to win here in Bangkok and, when I return to the UK next month, this victory will have given me all the confidence in the world."
Fu dropped only the second frame and compiled a top break of 82 compared to Higgins' 71 in frame three.
